Technical Subcommittee on Accessibility of the International Organization for Standardization meets in Madrid
The first meeting of the Technical Subcommittee on Accessibility of the International Organization for Standardization ISO/TC59/Ad-hoc group (future ISO/TC59/SC16) was held in Madrid on 15 June 2001, and countries represented included Denmark, France, Israel, Japan, Norway, United Kingdom, Uruguay and Spain. The Chairman, Arch. Eduardo Alvarez, represented COPANT and UNIT.
The meeting decided to promote active e-mail participation, facilitate collaboration with less developed countries, minimizing expensive meeting attendance costs, and to seek financial support from DEVCO and other institutions. Adopted resolutions included:
ISO/TC59/Ad-Hoc Group will exchange information by e-mail and members will contact different countries in Asia, Africa, North and South America, Australia, etc to increase participation.
The proposed new title for the Group is ISO/TC59/SC16 "Accessibility and usability of the built environment".
Proposed new scope is: Requirements and guidelines for design, construction and management of accessibility and usability in new and existing built environments to be obstacle free and enable independent and safe use.
The second meeting of the ISO/TC59 was held in Madrid, on 30 November 2001.
The 3rd meeting of the ISO/TC59/SC16 "Accessibility and usability of the built environment" is scheduled in Brisbane, Australia on March 16, 2002.

This is a website maintained by Ekhos I+C that provides up-to-date news about the spread of Internet technology throughout Latin America. It not only deals with the issue of the disabled having access to the technology but also informs people about ways that the Internet is being brought to the poverty stricken areas of Latin America which is one of the missions of Ekhos I+C. Information can be sorted by country by clicking on various menus. There is also a schedule of events in Latin America dealing with universal access to technology.

This site is from an organization that strives to eliminate architectural, urban and transportation barriers in Argentina as well as in the broader world, providing equal access to disabled people to all structures. Articles contained in this site tackle such issues as tourism for disabled persons.
