Information from DISNNET number 603 (disnetco@yahoo.com), edited by Luis Fernando Astorga Gatjens, IID (lferag@racsa.co.cr)

On December 10, during the award ceremony of the Society for All 2002 Contest, Vice-president of the Republic of Colombia, journalist Francisco Santos Calderón, expressed great surprise at this initiative, the magnitude of the response, and offered the support from the government saying that this contest was an excellent way of promoting inclusion in the Latin American media, and to achieve total inclusion by the year 2010: "I dream of seeing many of these persons with disabilities we have in the audience, making their way into journalism and entering the press rooms instead of as beauty queens that do not offer anything to foster inclusion to communication and information."

At this event, the Minister of Communication, Martha Helena Pinto de De Hart, also expressed her satisfaction in the wide response to this 2002 Contest and reaffirmed the commitment of her Ministry to develop a communication policy for social inclusion and access to information for all, without discrimination and without barriers.
