Study Abroad at the Abbey in France

June 11-July 4, 2004

Study Abroad Programs, Department of Interdisciplinary Studies and the Developmental Disabilities Institute at Wayne State University announce an Interdisciplinary course for the summer 2004 semester, ISP 4770/ ISP5500: Cross-cultural Perspectives on Disability.

Structure: ISP 4770 Travel Study, A 3-week study abroad program for students with disabilities and/or students interested in the disability field. Enrollment requires Instructor's Permission. Earn 3 to 4 credits in the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies. Also meets requirements for the graduate course ISP 5500. This course will use field trips, popular films and interactions with French college students with disabilities to expand students' cross-cultural perceptions of disability.

The Location: The 1,000-year old Abbey is set in Pontlevoy, France in the beautiful Loire Valley. The Abbey's ancient campus will welcome you and change your life.   A resident campus with its own moat, guard tower, gothic cathedral and lush gardens, the Abbey is a new school of thought in global learning. Pontlevoy is less than 30 kilometers from the three great chateaux of the valley: Chambord, Chenonceau and Cheverney and just a two hour train ride from France's capital, Paris.

Cost: The cost for the Study Abroad Program is ~$3,300. Cost includes international airfare, tuition, fees, lodging at the University Dormitory, and a daily lunch. Students are encouraged to apply for a grant offered through the Study Abroad and Global Programs Office to support participation in study programs outside of the U.S. to offset some expenses.
