Bridges to Employment: Exploring Options for U.S. Latinos with Disabilities
August 21-24, 2002
Anaheim, California

Sponsored by Proyecto Visión/Project Vision, the U.S. National Technical Assistance Center for Latinos with Disabilities based at the World Institute on Disability

What's in it for me?
Four days of conference sessions, classes, internet training and presentations in English and Spanish by organizations, employment experts and government agencies offering: job training, job listings, resume assistance, connections, networking, internships, job banks, scholarships, national volunteer service programs, support for higher education, individual development accounts, and advice on a range of strategies from how to look for a job to preparing for an interview to transitioning from benefits to employment.

Who will be there?
Successful Latinos from all walks of life who will tell their stories and offer tips and strategies... staff from organizations specializing in employment, assistive technology, disability rights, and a variety of services for Latinos... representatives of government programs and services such as the One Stop Career Development Centers, State Rehabilitation Agencies, Small Business Administration, and the "Ticket to Work" initiative of the Social Security Administration... and lots of Latinos with disabilities looking for jobs and opportunities leading to advancement in their careers.

Will I have any fun?
Late afternoon sessions will provide the chance to talk informally about job and career obstacles, see some films, or find a mentor. An opening reception and closing celebration will feature performing and fine artists, as well as good Latino food, Southern California style. And, of course, the conference hotel is a short walk away from accessible Disneyland.

What will it cost?
Our conference hotel, The Anaheim Hyatt, is offering rooms for participants for $99 a night with free parking for guests; and reduced parking rates for local conference participants who are not hotel guests. The conference fee of $250 covers internet classes, opening reception, continental breakfasts, closing celebration, all conference sessions and materials in English and Spanish. We are seeking funds for scholarships for unemployed or low income Latinos with disabilities, so please contact us as early as possible if you need one.
