Barrier Free Brothel in Australia

An Australian brothel has installed a ramp and made other accommodations for customers with disabilities. The Pink Palace in Melbourne might be the first such service in the country to carry out these modifications that include enlarged doors and sit-down showers.

In a BBC news story published March 15, George Taleporos, a researcher into sexuality and disability, said that the modifications would mean that disabled people could visit the brothel alone, with an assistant or carer. Taleporos, who uses a wheelchair, commented that having independent access meant that the experience could be more private, involving fewer people.

Disability Rights Victoria, a local advocacy organization, applauded the Pink Palace and said it hoped more brothels would follow suit. One of the Pink Palace working women added that this catering to the needs of disabled persons would help boost the brothel's profile.
