Prime Minister of Uganda Pledges Disability Fund

During the first National Disability Awards ceremony, Uganda's Prime Minister, Prof. Apollo Nsibambi announced that a new governmental fund to support microenterprise would benefit people with disabilities as one of the target groups. Presiding over the awards event in Kampala on May 7, Nsibambi stated that disability should not be equated with inability.

The event was held in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Kampala and the Uganda National Action on Physical Disability, two groups that had teamed up to run a competition among Rotary Clubs to provide services in line with the UN Standard Rules on Disability. All over the world Rotary Clubs are being encouraged to participate in an international goal to establish 500,000 people with disabilities in employment.
