Chile: Workers with Disabilities Found More Efficient
A study performed in Chile by the Industry Promotion Society (Sociedad de Fomento Fabril, SOFOFA) revealed that workers with disabilities are more constant in their work, make fewer requests, are more punctual, take fewer medical leaves and are more productive, when compared to other workers.
This employers organization consulted companies that had hired persons with disabilities and the results obtained indicated that these workers were 87% more responsible than workers without disabilities.
This investigation also revealed that workers with disabilities were 74% more constant in their work, 72% more punctual and the quality of their work was rated 63% better when compared to their follow workers.
The Ministry of Planning and Cooperation of Chile is organizing a registry of the persons with disability currently being employed at its 150 service agencies which have provided work opportunities for persons with disabilities.
The main difficulty found by employers of persons with disabilities wanting to work, is the negative reaction against this type of labor inclusion. The opposition in some cases was from workers without disabilities.
