ParaDoc: International Spinal Cord Documentation and Referral Centre for Education
What is ParaDoc?
ParaDoc has arisen through the initiative of the IMSOP (now ISCOS) and the SPF (Swiss Paraplegics Foundation) and is upheld by the library of the SPC (Swiss Paraplegic Centre) in accordance.
ParaDoc collects practice oriented publications on the topic of spinal cord injuries and diseases and provides this information via online catalogue on the internet.
With this activity the database supports the international exchange of information, makes the access to publications easier from all countries and in all languages. It promotes contact between affected persons from all countries.
For whom is ParaDoc?
ParaDoc has been set up for all those people and organisations engaged with spinal cord injuries and diseases, especially people living in developing countries:
-
patients and their families
-
nursing staff and therapists
-
doctors
-
hospitals and rehabilitation centres
-
organisations of affected persons
What does ParaDoc collect?
ParaDoc collects all kinds of practice oriented publications: books, brochures, magazine articles, comic strips, videos, sound carriers, electronic publications, internet sources, etc.
It collects publications in all languages and from all countries.
ParaDoc does not collect medical research-and technical literature which is already accessible on-line through other sources (such as Medline).
What do you find in ParaDoc?
In the ParaDoc online-catalogue you can search through various different criteria, for example author and originator, titles, language and country of origin of the publication and/or specific theme.
You will find detailed bibliographical information, details on the contents and the source of supply of every publication. All information is supplied in English.
ParaDoc does not send any publications out. If it is legally and technically possible, you can download a publication from the catalogue directly to your own PC.
How can you support ParaDoc?
ParaDoc is dependent on your help to become and uphold an up-to-date information centre. We are very grateful to you for your benevolent support.
If you have written or published material on the topic (or know of such), you can send this to ParaDoc to be included in the catalogue. For the publication to be included completely and correctly, ParaDoc requires additional accompanying information (especially for publications in other languages than English). You will find a form which helps you with this on the homepage of ParaDoc (Add Publication: cataloguing help form).
