Steve Brown Poetry, Books, etc.
Reading the last Gnarly Bone newsletter brought sadness and two more entries into my every growing poem, "Martyrs". Earlier this spring I had a chance to read "Martyrs," for the first time to a non-crip audience. I was surprised and moved at how well received it was. It's reminded me that even though we don't all deal with disability rights we do all confront loss and pain. And the original version of "Martyrs" remains a selection in my first poetry book, PAIN, PLAIN AND FANCY RAPPINGS: POETRY FROM THE DISABILITY CULTURE. Since that time in the mid-1990s we've put out three more of my poetry books: VOYAGES: LIFE JOURNEYS; DRAGONFLIES IN PARADISE: AN ACTIVIST'S PARTIAL POETIC AUTOBIOGRAPHY; and THE GODDESS APPROACHES FIFTY: POEMS. VOYAGES is $10, the other three $5., all pre-paid to the Institute on Disability Culture. Some poems have also been made into posters and greeting cards.
