Focus of the Pre - Consultative Workshop
Every minute of the day a woman dies of Pregnancy related complications, in other words Nearly 600,000 women die each year (WHO Report on maternal health around the world 1983-1989). For every women who dies, at least 30 other women face debilitating problems.Every year 3-4 million new born infants die within the first week of life and for every new born baby that lives another is stillborn. One child in ten births has some form of disability.

The cause of these disabilities is poor health, malnutrition, inadequate care during pregnancy and child birth, chronic illness, unsafe abortions, alcohol consumption during pregnancy leading to fetal alcohol syndrome.

These disabling conditions are preventable if there are :
  1. facilities for early detection
  2. Early assessment and stimulation
  3. imparting awareness to women on fetal alcohol syndrome and other areas of serious concern.
In this workshop it is proposed to :
  • Identify the strengths of the family and community
