Mulitple Sclerosis International Federation Publishes Treatment Management Guide

Multiple Sclerosis International Federation
Multiple Sclerosis: The Guide to Treatment and Management

The most comprehensive reference book on the treatment and management of multiple sclerosis is now on the Internet. From today (13 August) Multiple Sclerosis: The Guide to Treatment and Management can be seen on the Multiple Sclerosis International Federation (MSIF) web site 'The World of MS'.

This is the fifth edition of the highly respected guide, formerly titled Therapeutic Claims in MS. It is a unique compendium and evaluation of the most frequently used treatments for the management of multiple sclerosis, providing an authoritative reference for health professionals and patients alike.

Said Christine Purdy, chief executive of the MSIF, "The huge expansion of information available about MS, particularly on the Internet, has helped people with MS to become much more involved in their own care. However, this rich source of facts, advice and support is interspersed with a great deal of misinformation and questionable opinion. It has become increasingly important to deliver up-to-date and accurate information which distinguishes valid treatments from those which are ineffective or even dangerous.
"MSIF prides itself on distributing quality information on all aspects of MS. Multiple Sclerosis: The Guide to Treatment and Management is the result of meticulous work by the International Medical Advisory Board of the Federation."
The authors are:
  • Chris Polman, MD, PhD, Professor of Neurology, Free University Medical Centre, Amsterdam;

  • Jock Murray, OC, MD, FRCPC, MACP, FRCP, Professor of Medicine (Neurology), Professor of Medical Humanities, Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia;
  • Ian MacDonald, MB, PhD, FRCP, FmedSci, Professor of Clinical Neurology (Emeritus), Institute of Neurology, Queen Square, London.
The text is divided into sections covering acute exacerbations, disease-modifying therapies, symptom management, and alternative therapies to give reader easy access to information. The web version will be updated at least every six months to ensure readers have access to all the latest research findings.
