Colombia Makes an Effort to Ratify the Inter American Convention

Colombia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has committed itself to make an effort and push the legislative process so as to ratify the "Inter American Convention for the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination against people with Disabilities." That office is trying to draft a bill whereby the country would formalize, in its juridical process, the commitments it did assume as a signatory of the Convention. The Convention was proclaimed in 1999, during the OAS General Assembly in Guatemala City, by 20 countries in the Americas. The National Care Plan for People with Disabilities spearheaded the justification, basis, and documentation phases for the aforementioned process in a joint effort with the Colombian Government's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Nowadays, Colombia is implementing a Prevention and Care for the Disabled Policy in a joint effort by the government and the organized civil society.
