By Guillermo Fernández (Solidaridad Digital)
The most recent version of the voice recognition software, Dragon NaturallySpeaking 7, was presented to the press yesterday. This program will allow personas with visual and other disabilities to use the computer without needing to work from the keyboard.
This software was developed by ScanSoft and Grupo Fundosa-ONCE. It has been adapted to 115 impairments, from lack of visual capacity to limited hand movements.
Mr. Miguel Gómez Sanabria, Market Director of ScanSoft, says: "Our program offers many possibilities for persons with disabilities. It is a way of fostering inclusion in the information society for persons with disabilities, who still have problems using computers. We are very happy that our technology will improve their quality of life."
All the keyboard and mouse operations can be performed through voice control. Users may correct words, change fonts and colors by voice instructions.
Dragon NaturallySpeaking 7 can handle dictation at 160 words per minute. Average users type only about 60 to 70 words per minute using the key board. Program designers say that this program will be of great help for physicians, judges, journalists and students.
The basic version of the program costs about 99 euros and the complete version for professionals is about 849. There is also a pack which includes a digital recorder for 299 euros.
