New Project to Train Blind South Africans as Revenue Agents

The Finance Minister of South Africa launched a joint job training project on July 13 between the Revenue Service and the National Council for the Blind, with the goal of preparing more than 700 blind persons for the labor market. To begin, the Revenue Service will support training of 10 blind students as call center agents and the employ them.

A recent research study by the National Council for the Blind revealed that disabled people are the least employed group in the country, with a rate of 0.28% in the corporate sector. At least 2.2 million South Africans have physical disabilities and those who are blind account for the largest segment. Details: www.dpsa.org.za/displayArticle.asp?id=118
