Disabled Women: Recomended Web Resources

A few years ago during the highs of the dot.com rush, there were numerous sites that covered issues concerning women with disabilities from various points of view. Now, it is more difficult to find sites that are regularly updated or have substantive materials. So, a few of us at DisabilityWorld did a search over the last month and have listed the most interesting of what we found. We left out a lot of sites that had outdated material, some that had only local information and others that were impossible to navigate. Please let us know if we missed any of your favorite sites.

Disability Feminist Resources

www.wwda.org.au
Still the mother lode, produced by Women with Disabilities of Australia, featuring an amazing range of papers and newsletters from a feminist point of view, replete with "oz" attitude. One of the latest entries, by Helen Meekosha, "Drifting Down the Gulf Stream: Navigating the Culture of Disability Studies," is an in-depth critique of the British and American influences on an emerging Australian approach to disability studies.

Kept hearing about how great this site was, so we were surprised to find an oddly medical presentation of information by disability category. By oddly, we mean it covers Bulimia Nervosa but not blindness, Panic Disorder but not paraplegia, Dissociative Disorder but not deafness, and Pervasive Developmental Disorders but not developmental disabilities etc. Admittedly, though, it was fun to check out Sexuality and find "The New Freedom Initiative" listed.
