Updates from the Cinema for the Deaf Festival 2002

The Chicago Institute for the Moving Image (CIMI) is holding a Festival of Cinema for the Deaf in Chicago on March 1-4, 2002 that will feature:
  • Films made specifically for a deaf audience
  • Prizes for the top films
  • Prominent speakers from deaf and hearing communities
  • ASL interpreters for all related events
  • Audiologists for technical support
Since the birth of cinema, filmmakers have ignored the needs of deaf spectators. Deaf actors, directors and filmmakers have struggled to create a genre that reflects the physical and cultural differences of their audience. CIMI challenges filmmakers from all backgrounds to work with members of the deaf community in supporting this film festival.

Festival Poster Contest
Submit original artwork to our Festival Poster Contest and your design and name could be used for our festival poster!

Film Submission Information
Only films that demonstrate that they are intended for deaf spectators will be considered. Please submit films no later than DECEMBER 31, 2001, in VHS or mini-DV format. Specify which category you would wish to be considered for, (narrative, documentary, animation, experimental, etc.) Include your name, film title, address, and email/telephone/TTY/Fax along with a check for $35 made out to CIMI.
