Seeking Disabled African-American Student for Documentary
State of the Art, Inc. (www.stateart.com) is currently looking individuals with disabilities, and their families, to be profiled in a documentary video and/or a notebook. These materials will be a resource that will encourage students with physical, cognitive, developmental, and emotional disabilities and their parents to begin the transition planning process at age 14.
Our priority is to find the final individual for the documentary video. To achieve representative diversity, we are searching for an African-American male or female student who has a mobility impairment and/or learning disability, completed the transition process from high school and is now attending college, and is taking advantage of adult services and/or receiving accommodations through the college disability office. Unfortunately, due to cost constraints, we must limit our search to states located east of the Mississippi River. Though the video & notebook will be translated into Spanish, it will be important for both the student and their family to be able to be interviewed in English.
We are also looking for additional profile candidates for the notebook. We are interested in speaking to individuals, of any race/ethnicity and sex, who have completed the transition process from high school to college or to community life. We feel that these individuals can best encourage and teach students and families still in the transition process about the importance of starting early, identifying services, and making long-term goals.
