RI European Conference on "Networking in Practice," Germany, November 2002

The eighth European Conference of Rehabilitation International will take place November 11-15 in Aachen, Germany, on the theme of "Networking in Practice."

Conference sponsors are several leading German and Dutch organizations working in the disability and rehabilitation field, with support from the European Union and other groups.

The theme was chosen because in disability policy, as well as in rehabilitation, new forms of working together and of connecting partners often are keys to operational success. Not only in Europe but also in other countries, the impacts of the modern economy, demography, advances in technology and new global interrelations offer new opportunities but cause a stronger need to take action. We encourage you to take part and discuss cooperation issues, consequences and challenges arising from national and the European economy, culture and policies, to improve ways that disabled persons can overcome barriers and become full participants in an open, accommodating society.

The conference will also be an opportunity to prepare for the European Year of People with Disabilities 2003 and will focus on the sub-themes of Participation, Access, Employability and Inclusion.
