Disability & Development Web Initiative in Denmark

WWW.disability.dk is a site devoted to people working in the field of disability & developing countries. The site has been initiated by DSI - Danish Disability Council, but with a strong connection to grassroots and NGOs in developing countries. The site will serve as a library for all kind of relevant information. With this site we hope to serve all people working with disabilities and developing countries. That is local NGOs in developing countries, international NGOs - both those who have disabilities as their prime scope and those who have a more general aim, governments and all other who needs information in this area.

To insure that we collect the right information we have a Webmaster for each country and also webmasters for each of the global issues. The country webmasters are all locals working in the disability sector in their own country in an NGO or within a governmental institution. Uganda, Ghana and South Africa are the first countries but will soon be followed by Nepal, Zimbabwe and than others in the next couple of months.

The workshop in Johannesburg on "HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health in Relation to Women and Children with Disabilities" was a follow-up on Beijing and the Beijing +5 in New York with the aims:
  1. To discuss and attract attention to HIV/AIDS and reproductive health with respect to women and children with disabilities and elderly women in Africa,
  2. To inspire each other, giving ideas and tools for our future work in this context, hopefully being within the framework of an African network of English-speaking countries focusing on HIV and Reproductive health issues in the disability field.
The documents from the workshop are available on http://www.disability.dk/site/countryindex.php?section_id=9
