Information from DISNNET PRESS (disnetco@yahoo.com), No. 569, October 16, 2002. Edited by: Luis Fernando Astorga Gatjens, IID (lferag@racsa.co.cr)

From October 19 to 20, the members of the Board of Directors of the Latin American Union of the Blind (Unión Latinoamericana de Ciegos (ULAC) met in Cartegena de Indias, on the Colombian Caribbean coast, to examine plans and actions, and projects for the region and the future of persons with visual disabilities.

This meeting was supported by the ONCE Foundation for Latin America (Fundación ONCE para América Latina, FOAL). This is how 30 young blind leaders gathered at the First Ibero-Ameican Seminar on Management of Non Governement Organizations (I Seminario Iberoamericano para la Formación en Dirección y Gestión de Organizaciones no Gubernamentales de Carácter Social).

The delegates to the Seminar received training on tools available to strengthen the organizations of persons with visual disabilities in the region.

The organization of the event was undertaken by the International Federation of Sports for the Blind (Federación Internacional de Deportes para Ciegos, IBSA), la Fundación Once América Latina (FOAL), la Unión Latinoamericana de Ciegos (ULAC), and with the support of Spanish Secretariat of Cooperation with Ibero-America, SECIB).
