Eating Habits Exonerated: Instant satisfaction!
By Andrew Freeway (with thanks to Journal of American Medical Association JAMA)

Having your cravings blessed by scientists seems to be the best way to prove the use of science in every day life. This time the peanut butter is the rising star!

Do not you love those articles from well-known universities: Harvard proves the value of the Atkins diet: fat is ok, just skip the carbs! Or the French wine institute: drinking red wine prolongs life and adds real quality to it! That instant feeling of guilt relief and the deep knowing that what you did has been all right..... Well, you can add another item to that list: peanut butter!

Nuts and peanut butter are healthy. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association of November 27 nuts and peanut butter reduce the chance of heaving diabetes 2. Anti-oxidants like vitamin E are influencing the glucose metabolism, so goes the theory.

Since 1976 nutritionists at the Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women's Hospital have been studying the medical files of more than 80,000 female nurses. In the beginning none of these nurses were developing diabetes, heart or vascular diseases or cancer. Using a questionnaire on a regular basis the epidemiologists analyzed the eating habits of these women. And based on this analysis they came to the conclusion that there is a real connection between eating peanut butter and preventing diabetes 2. Of course the scientists have corrected the outcome of the research with parameters like bodyweight, age, family history and physical activity being well known factors that improve the chance of getting diabetes 2. But after those corrections, it was still very evident that peanut butter improves your chances of not getting diabetes 2 with 20% or more. And perhaps the best feature of this new diet: you will not gain more bodyweight by eating nuts and peanut butter. Is it not lovely that you finally can indulge in a scientifically approved craving?
