Participation Invited: Australian Study on Well-being of Parents

Hi, my name is Aaron Allen and I am a Postgraduate Diploma of Psychology student studying at Swinburne University of Technology, in Melbourne, Australia. The project supervisor is Dr Roslyn Galligan, of the Department of Psychology at Swinburne University.

I am asking parents with a child who has a disability to participate in this study. The purpose of the study is to gain a better understanding of the experiences of parents who are caring for their children who have a disability.

Of the few studies which have investigated this population, almost all have ignored the fact that fathers also raise their children. By researching mothers and fathers in this study, information gained will be useful to counsellors working with parents in similar circumstances.

If you agree to participate, you will be asked to complete a questionnaire, which normally takes about an hour. You will be asked about your spirituality, social support, state of well being and how household tasks are shared with your partner. Partners are requested not to discuss the questionnaire until both have been completed.

The study is completely anonymous and strictly confidential. Should you decide to return your completed questionnaire, there is no way that you can be identified and I am the only person who can access your information.

Participation in this research is completely voluntary. You are under no obligation to complete the questionnaire once you have started, and you can withdraw from participating at any time.

Obviously, it is most beneficial if you have completed the questionnaire, but any information is useful, so please return your questionnaires even if you haven't completed every question. This study may be published in a scholarly journal, but any potentially identifying information will be removed or changed to maintain anonymity.

If you would like to participate, please click on the link below. Thank you for your support.
