Irish Study Finds Disabled People Twice as Likely to Live in Poverty

A study by Ireland's National Disability Authority, released on November 29, found that "People with disabilities are twice as likely to live in poverty, two and a half times less likely to have a job, three times more likely to have left school before the minimum school-leaving age, five times more likely to have no access to transport and significantly less likely to socialize outside the home, compared to non-disabled people."

The report was launched by Ombudsman Emily O'Reilly and is entitled "How far towards equality? Measuring how equally people with disabilities are included in Irish society." Based primarily on census data, the report can be read in full on the NDA website: www.nda.ie
