Census 2000 in Brazil Hires 9000 Temps with Disabilities

The IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) will hire 10.500 persons with disabilities to work as temps for the Demographic Census of 2000.  IBGE needs 216 thousand workers for this Census and 5% of the places are reserved for persons with disabilities, in accordance with the Brazilian legislation. Among the available 180 thousand jobs, 9 thousand will be for individuals with disabilities. All candidates interested to take one of the available jobs have to participate in a public exam. The applicant must be over 18 years old and have to have finished high school. The president of IBGE, Sérgio Besserman, said that there's no limitation for persons with disabilities to participate. He said: "at the time of the hiring, we will take into consideration what kind of function/position each person will be able to perform, accordingly to his/her possibilities".
