Handicap or Participation in a New Millennium?

HAREC - Centre for Disability and Rehabilitation Research will be the host of the  Conference. The purpose of this event is to invite researchers in particular from the Nordic countries to present and discuss their research as well as to promote contacts for Nordic and international collaboration.

The theme of the conference focuses on how persons with disabilities should achieve full participation in the society. It means that contributions from many different fields of disability research will be presented. The themes for the seminars in the parallel sessions will be formulated after the selection of abstracts which will be done by the programme committee. Some of the seminars will probably be in the following areas:

· International and European perspectives
· Human rights or discrimination?
· Public health and disability
· Empowerment - A strategy for full participation?
· Accessibility in a dynamic high-tech society
· Children and their families
· Methods and strategies in community rehabilitation
· Methods and strategies in occupational therapy
· Methods and strategies in pedagogics
· Methods and strategies in physiotherapy
· Methods and strategies in social work
· The disability movement
· New areas and forms of occupation
· Inclusion or exclusion?
· Social policy for disabled
· The meta discourse on disability research

Language

The official language of the conference is English. All abstracts and presentations must be in English.

Conference venue

The conference will take place at the Medical Research Centre, Malmö University Hospital, Malmö. The bridge between Malmö and Copenhagen should be open before October 2000. Therefore it will be convenient to travel from Denmark and Copenhagen airport to Malmö.
