Access & Technology:

New Information Service from the University of Salamanca, Spain

In May, Spain's Information Service on Disability (Servicio de Información sobre Discapacidad,SID) launched a public access web page at http://sid.usal.es

The Institute for Migration and Social Services within Spain's Department of Labor and Social Affairs (IMSERSO) and the University Institute for Integration into the Community (INICO) of the University of Salamanca created this service. SID's goals are to be a corner stone and an efficient agent for all users who are trying to find information on disabilities on the Internet. Its design and plan is geared to highlight the structure of contents, and towards that end, several ways to organize information were created so all users have a clear access and multiple choices. This very characteristic makes it different from the majority of windows in the Internet.

SID has been designed to offer solutions to requests for information from all possible users (businesses, professionals, people with disabilities, families, teachers, and researchers, etc.) The design plan also considered technical requirements and design features for easy accessibility to the service.

SID's completion will be an ongoing process for this year and next. Currently, a great percentage of its contents deal with employment and financial protections to people with disabilities.

SID is located at the University Institute for Integration into the Community,  within the Psychology Department at Salamanca University.
