Disability World Links: Arts and Media
  • Harilyn Rousso - Artwork by Harilyn Rousso, our featured artist for Disability World no. 6. Featured on the Ducts webzine (http://www.ducts.org), the images are from a children's book that Harilyn Rousso is writing based on her childhood growing up with cerebral palsy.
  • HebrewVisions.org - HebrewVisions.org, sponsored by JBI International, is a free service dedicated to making Hebrew texts accessible to Braille users. Many texts and books have been preformatted, and can be downloaded in Braille format to be sent to an embosser. There is also a translation program, which allows users to convert Hebrew text to Braille for embossing or reading on a Braille display.
  • Just a Wedding - A site about the hit documentary, "Just a Wedding," from the National Film Board of Canada.
  • Laura Ferguson - The portfolio site of Laura Ferguson, an artist featured in Disability World volume 7.
  • London Disability Arts Forum - The information packed website of London Disability Arts Forum, founded in 1986 by disabled artists and activists; includes notices of annual film festivals, competitions for artists and other events.
  • Media Watch on Disability - The Media Watch on Disability is a new activism weblog by Cynthia Petricko. Its purpose is simple: to create a dialogue about disability with media industry professionals, and with the people they cite as experts.
  • Minnesota Services Inclusion Project - MSIP provides information and support to educators and others seeking to encourage the involvement of individuals with disabilities in national and community service opportunities. Also offers posters and postcards.
  • Navigating the Body - A beautiful site created by four artists, three of whom live with chronic pain. It was the Yahoo! pick of the day. It is a very powerful site.
  • New Mobility - The web site of New Mobility magazine and extensive message boards on various aspects of life with a physical disability.
  • Rasso Bruckert - The portfolio site of Rasso Bruckert, an artist featured in Disability World volume 6.
  • Riva Lehrer - The portfolio site of Riva Lehrer, an artist featured in Disability World volume 5.
  • Sprout Film Festival - "By presenting films of artistry and intellect, the festival hopes to reinforce accurate portrayals of people with developmental disabilities and expose the media and general public to important issues facing this population."
  • StopPity.org - Protesting telethons and their use of pity of disabled people to raise funds.
  • The Stigma of Cinemania - Cinemania is a web site designed to confront the stigma associated with mental illness and to challenge the media's portrayal of people labelled mentally-ill as violent and deranged.
